Start with scope
Identify the type of admission before collecting documents.
Entry-level, Class I, transfer and category-based routes can use different instructions—even for the same campus.“School admission” can describe several different processes. First identify the type of admission, sometimes called the admission route: entry-level, Class I, transfer, category-based or another process named by the school. Requirements and dates can differ even for the same campus.
Record the school, campus, class, session and admission type in Part 1 of the Admission Readiness Pack below.
Why the admission type matters
Official examples are useful only inside their stated scope.
The KVS Admission Guidelines 2026–27 and onwards contain rules for Kendriya Vidyalayas and distinguish between classes and admission circumstances. Delhi's 2026–27 entry-class guidelines address Nursery, KG and Class I admissions in Delhi Government Sarvodaya Vidyalayas for children residing in Delhi. Neither source creates a general rule for every Indian school.
If the admission type is unclear, ask the school before using the form. A transfer application may not use the entry-level document list, and a category-based application may require extra steps.
Use a source hierarchy
Find the current instruction for the exact application.
A familiar search result or forwarded message can help you locate a source, but it should not become the evidence for a requirement. After identifying the admission type, find the current official page, notice or circular for the exact school, campus, class and session. Check sources in this order:
| Check first | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Current official admission notice or circular | Title, issue date, session, classes, applicant group, dates and any attachment or correction. |
| Current school admission page or published instruction | Campus, admission type, form destination, school contact and school-specific requirements. |
| Official affiliation or recognition system when relevant | School identity and the current status shown by the issuing authority. |
| School admissions office or issuing authority | The answer to a mismatch, missing-document, deadline or admission-type question the published instructions do not resolve. |
Save the direct link or a private copy of the instruction you used. A search snippet, social post, forwarded message, old prospectus or third-party list may help you find the official page, but it should not be the final evidence for a requirement.
Conflicting instructions
Save both sources, then ask which one applies.
If two official pages differ, record both links and their dates, then ask the school admissions office or issuing authority which instruction controls before you submit.
Record the exact wording
Check the age rule for this school, class and session.
An age statement is incomplete until its issuer, class, session, cutoff date and exact minimum, range or other condition are clear. In Part 1 of the Admission Readiness Pack, record the issuing school or authority, class and session, cutoff date, exact minimum, maximum or range, any stated relaxation, the accepted proof and the date you checked the instruction.
The KVS Admission Guidelines illustrate the need for precision: they assess Class I age against a named cutoff and say a child born on 1 April should also be considered. That is a KVS-specific instruction. Delhi's 2026–27 entry-class guidelines use their own class-specific age bands for the government-school route they cover.
Keep the comparison private
Do not rely on an unknown admission-age calculator.
Compare the child's date of birth privately with the current official wording. If the result is close to a boundary, a stated relaxation may apply or the wording is unclear, ask the school office or issuing authority to confirm it. This guide does not decide eligibility.
Build only the folder you need
Prepare the documents this application asks for.
Treat these categories as folder labels, not as a universal list of documents required for school admission.| Folder | Examples to look for | How to check whether it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Identity and proof of age | A certificate or record the authority accepts for the child's identity or date of birth. | Which exact proofs are accepted, and must an original be shown? |
| Residence | An address or residence proof named for the admission type. | Whose name may appear, what area must it show and how recent must it be? |
| Prior-school record | A transfer certificate, report or other previous-school evidence if requested. | Is it required for this class and route, and what should happen if it is pending? |
| Category or eligibility | Evidence for a category, priority or admission type only when claimed. | Who issues it, what form is accepted and is there a validity condition? |
| Application-specific items | A photograph, declaration, file or other item named in the form. | What format and size are required, must a copy be signed or self-attested, and where must it be submitted? |
The KVS Admission Guidelines say prescribed self-attested documents accompany registration. They separately direct KVs to examine documents of provisionally selected children for authenticity and validity and say the original date-of-birth certificate should be returned after verification. These are KVS-specific procedures; another school may use a different method.
Give every file a private, neutral name that helps you recognise it. Follow the official instruction on originals, ask what the office will retain or return, and keep a receipt or acknowledgement for any original document it keeps temporarily.
Unclear or missing item
Turn the uncertainty into a question.
Add a question beside any missing, inconsistent or unclear item. Use a substitute only if the current notice or admissions office confirms that it is accepted.
Compare form and evidence
Check the admission form line by line before submission.
Forms often repeat details from supporting evidence. Find a mismatch before verification rather than after submission.- Exact child name and spelling
- Date of birth and the format requested
- Parent or guardian name and relationship
- Address as it appears in the accepted residence evidence
- School, campus, class, session and admission type
- Category or eligibility information only when applicable
- Prior-school details only where requested
- File type, size, orientation and legibility
- Declarations, consent wording and required signatures
- Contact details used for acknowledgements and follow-up
If a form entry and a document do not match, pause and ask the admissions office how the detail should be entered or corrected.
Before submitting, read the declaration, confirm that the destination is the exact school or official portal and preview every uploaded file. After the school or portal confirms submission, save any acknowledgement or reference number it issues and a private copy of what was sent. Those records document the status shown by that system; they do not prove that admission has been granted.
Separate school records
Admission forms and CBSE examination records are different tasks.
This section covers the admission form. For post-enrolment CBSE examination-record checks, use the separate CBSE LOC checklist.
Keep the date with its purpose
Record what every admission deadline applies to.
A date alone is easy to reuse incorrectly. Keep the school, class, session, admission type and source beside it.In Part 2 of the Admission Readiness Pack, track the form opening and closing dates, any missing-document or correction step, selection or result, document verification, offer response, payment due if applicable and final confirmation.
The Delhi 2026–27 entry-class guidelines include application dates and a missing-document or correction process for the named government-school admission type. Those dates must not be carried into another school, admission type or session.
Record the event
Write what opens, closes, must be corrected, must be verified or requires a response.
Keep the source
Save the current direct link or a private copy with the school, class, session and admission type.
Set a private reminder
Choose a reminder before the deadline and update it if an official correction or replacement appears.

Completion check
The pack is not an official application record.
It is complete when every item is confirmed, completed, marked not applicable from the current instruction or linked to a clear question for the school office.
Use the Board's current system
Verify a CBSE affiliation claim without treating it as a quality score.
This check applies when a school says it is CBSE-affiliated; it is not a universal school-verification system.Use CBSE's current SARAS school directory and match the school name, affiliation number and address shown there. The CBSE advisory for parents asks parents to check affiliation status and says phrases such as “CBSE Pattern” or “to be affiliated” do not prove affiliation.
Search the exact identity
Use the school name or affiliation number rather than relying only on a similar name.
Compare the campus
Match the address and other identifying information shown in the official record.
Open the school disclosure
Reach the current mandatory-public-disclosure page from the school's own official website.
Record and clarify a mismatch
Ask the school or CBSE through the appropriate official channel before relying on an inconsistent claim.
The revised Appendix IX attached to CBSE Circular 01/2026 lists school identity, affiliation number where applicable, recognition documents, specified safety-related certificates, fee structure, staff details and infrastructure information. Inspect what the school publishes, verify affiliation in the SARAS directory and ask the issuing authority about anything missing, inconsistent or apparently outdated.
What this check does not decide
Affiliation status is not a school recommendation.
The disclosure page does not decide whether a school is suitable for a particular child. For a non-CBSE school, use the recognition or affiliation source relevant to that school.
Six safer checks
Avoid admission mistakes caused by missing scope or stale instructions.
Most of these errors begin with a familiar-looking page, date or checklist that belongs to a different application.Old session
Using last session's instructions
Confirm the academic session, issue date and whether a newer notice, attachment or correction exists.Wrong scope
Following the right school but the wrong route
Compare the campus, class, session and admission type on every form and official record.Universal list
Treating another checklist as mandatory
Write the current source beside every required item and ask about anything not named clearly.Mismatch
Ignoring a spelling, date or address difference
Compare the form with accepted evidence and ask the admissions office how to resolve any difference.Destination
Uploading to an unofficial page
Reach the form from the current official school or authority page and check the destination before entering information.Status
Confusing submission with admission
Treat the acknowledgement as proof of submission and continue following the official selection, verification and response process.Child-data boundary
Keep admission records private and use only the official destination.
Admission evidence can contain a child's date of birth, address, identifiers, photograph and family information.Keep the working folder and completed pack private. Share only the information requested through the official process and only with the school or issuing authority.
Before entering information
Distinguish the official form from unrelated public places.
Do not paste or upload student data, documents, credentials or payment information into an unrelated webpage, open chat, shared screenshot or public example. Enter required information only in the official school or authority form reached from the current instructions.
If payment is part of the school's process, open the payment destination from the official instruction, verify it before paying and keep the acknowledgement privately.
Keep the acknowledgement and any written clarification with the private application record. When the process is over, follow your family's normal secure-record practice rather than leaving copies in downloads, shared devices or public links.

Frequently asked questions
School-admission questions parents often ask.
Start with the current instruction for the exact application, then use the school or issuing authority for anything it does not resolve.Where can I find the correct school admission form?
Start on the official website for the exact school or authority. Confirm the campus, class, academic session and admission type before opening the form. Do not submit through a copied or forwarded link unless the official page confirms it.
Which documents are required for school admission in India?
The documents vary by school and admission type. Use the current instructions and classify each named item as identity or age, residence, prior-school, category or eligibility, or application-specific evidence. Confirm accepted alternatives, file format, whether a copy must be signed or self-attested and whether an original must be shown.
How do I check the age requirement for admission?
Record the issuing authority, class, academic session, cutoff date, exact minimum, maximum or range wording, any stated relaxation and the accepted proof. The KVS guidelines and Delhi Government Sarvodaya guidelines use their own rules inside their stated scope. Ask the school office when a birthday is close to a boundary or the wording is unclear.
Can a child be admitted without a transfer certificate?
Sometimes, but the rule is school-specific. The KVS guidelines say admission up to Class VIII may be granted without a school transfer certificate only when the child is otherwise eligible and the birth certificate was issued by a government body. This is a KVS-specific provision, not a rule for every school or admission type.
What should I do if an admission document is missing?
Check whether the current notice names an accepted alternative, missing-document process or official help desk, then ask the school office before submitting a substitute. Delhi's 2026–27 guidelines include limited provisions for named eligible groups and circumstances in the route they cover; these are not a general entitlement elsewhere.
Is Aadhaar compulsory for every school admission?
Do not assume Aadhaar is compulsory for every admission. Read the current instruction to see how it lists Aadhaar and which alternatives, if any, it names. Ask the school office to clarify an unclear request, and never upload an identifier to an unofficial destination.
How can I check whether a school is CBSE-affiliated?
Use CBSE's current SARAS school directory and match the exact school or campus name, affiliation number and address. Do not rely on promotional phrases such as “CBSE Pattern” or “to be affiliated,” which the CBSE advisory for parents says are not proof of affiliation. Review the school's current mandatory-public-disclosure page as a separate school-side check using the revised Appendix IX.
Will the school keep my child's original documents?
Check the current admission instructions and ask what must be shown, submitted, retained or returned. The KVS guidelines say the original date-of-birth certificate should be returned to the parent after verification. That is a KVS instruction, not a promise about every school or every type of document.
What should I do when two official instructions appear to conflict?
Save both links and record their dates, class, session and admission type. Ask the school or issuing authority which instruction applies, and keep the written clarification with the private application record.
